On the 16th May 2009 (Saturday), Kuching Open Source Community (KOSC) has organized an informal launching session for Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 at Starbucks @ The Spring, Kuching. The launching session was attended by more than 10 people consisting of educators and Linux enthutiasts.
The launching session started at 8pm and ended around 10.30pm where we all gathered and started by getting to know each other. After we all introduced ourselves and chit-chatting for a whlie, we distribute out the SUSE pack sponsored by Novell Malaysia. We also perform InstallFest and one of the attendee showcasing his SUSE Linux 11 on his laptop with some of the Compiz feature turned on.
Attendees: Albert Lai, Tan Tang Lung, Yong Ted Yun, Irene Kho, Donald P. Kong, Yus Razina, Irwan Marzuki, Lee Seldon and wife, Jeff Webb with daughter, Colin McAllister, Wan Abdul Malikh, and Nicholas Ng.

KOSC will be organizing the next meet up for May 2009 on September 16th, 2009 (Sat) from 8pm until 10pm at Starbucks, The Spring, Kuching. We would like to invite all of you to join this monthly meet up where we will be having Release Party for both Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise 11.
Free Ubuntu CDs / SUSE DVDs and other freebies will be distributed to attendees.

Kuching Open Source Community is having a meet up for all the members on:
During the meet up, we get to know our new member: Lee Seldon (from Australia) who work at Swinburne University Sarawak Campus and his wife. We explain to them on what is the function of KOSC as well as discussing about FOSS in health industry.
Beside Lee and his wife, the meet up was also attended by Donald, Chyr, Nicholas and Dennis.

Kuching Open Source Community (KOSC) will be organizing and celebrating the Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) Release Party for public in Kuching, Sarawak. Fell free to join us in celebrating the new release of the great Ubuntu Linux distro.

On the day, we all meet up at Starbucks, The Spring at 8pm and pulling together few tables and chairs so that we can gather together. The session started with introduction of new faces and chit-chatting and followed by installing Ubuntu 8.10 on member's machine.
We also go through some brainstorming session on what are the new software available and how well the new release being accepted in daily usage.

This year Software Freedom Day (SFD) 2008 is celebrated on the 20th September 2008 worldwide. But for us, we are co-organizing the event together with IEEE Student Branch of Curtin University of Technology (Sarawak Campus) in conjunction with their Open Source Expo 2008 from the 6th until 12th September.
With this, we would like to thanks them for celebrating the event.
